Michael is demonstrating how to create work in wet pastel and pastel dust. He recommends the following materials (a printable list is included below):
Pastels, soft to medium sticks which you can also scrape, pastel pencils:
- Cerulean Blue
- Cobalt Green
- Yellow Ocre
- Burnt Red Ochre
- Indigo Light Plus
- Burnt Brown
- Cadmium Orange
- Cadmium Yellow
- Lemon Yellow
Paper:
- A4 or A3 (or anything in between) HP Watercolour board or midnight watercolour paper (e.g. 300Ib/190gsm)
Dabbers:
- kitchen roll or soft tissue filled with cotton wool/ soft filling
- 1×1.5″
- 1×3/4″
- one for each colour
Other:
- White medium kneaded putty rubber e.g. Daler Rowney/ W&N
- 2B or HB pencil
- Soft round brushes in No. 10 and No. 6 (or equivalent)
- Small bowl of water
BEFORE THE DEMO:
If using watercolour paper moisten (not wet) the back only and leave to dry and press under a board. This will help balance the tension when applying the water.
