Michael Walsh SGFA, ‘Wet Pastel and Pastel Dust’ , Thursday 8 July, 2:00pm, Zoom Demonstration.

Michael is demonstrating how to create work in wet pastel and pastel dust. He recommends the following materials (a printable list is included below):

Pastels, soft to medium sticks which you can also scrape, pastel pencils:

  • Cerulean Blue
  • Cobalt Green
  • Yellow Ocre
  • Burnt Red Ochre
  • Indigo Light Plus
  • Burnt Brown
  • Cadmium Orange
  • Cadmium Yellow
  • Lemon Yellow

Paper:

  • A4 or A3 (or anything in between) HP Watercolour board or midnight watercolour paper (e.g. 300Ib/190gsm)

Dabbers:

  • kitchen roll or soft tissue filled with cotton wool/ soft filling
  • 1×1.5″
  • 1×3/4″
  • one for each colour

Other:

  • White medium kneaded putty rubber e.g. Daler Rowney/ W&N
  • 2B or HB pencil
  • Soft round brushes in No. 10 and No. 6 (or equivalent)
  • Small bowl of water

BEFORE THE DEMO:

If using watercolour paper moisten (not wet) the back only and leave to dry and press under a board. This will help balance the tension when applying the water.
