An interest in animals & nature has been the basic inspiration for my art. Over the last 18 years I’ve produced many paintings & sketches of animals, usually connected with farms & smallholdings in the south west of England where I live. The landscape nearly always features in these pieces too.

Today, figures & portraits are an increasing part of my work.

I’ve practiced drawing since childhood & used this developing skill whenever possible in my long horticultural career but strangely, today, I rarely paint flowers! Most of my work has been in pastel or charcoal but I also use oil & watercolour.

I like to sketch & observe before starting a piece to get a good feel for the character of a subject.
