Biography:

Jane Walker studied at Sheffield Hallam University (1984-87) and the Royal Academy Schools (1987-90). She received an Aeneas Travelling Award  from the Royal Academy Schools (1990), a Lucy Morrison Memorial Award (1993) and a portrait commission from the Royal Overseas League to paint Sir Lawrence Byford. She was artist in residence on the cross-channel ferries between Newhaven and Dieppe (1992), and was a prizewinner in the John Moores Painting Prize 19, Liverpool (1995).

Since moving to Sheffield in 1998 Jane has received two Arts Council of England grants (2001, 2003). Selected solo shows include ‘Drawings from the Cross Channel Residency’, The Hawth Theatre, Crawley (1993); Royal Overseas League (1994) Sheffield University (2001); Bloc space, Sheffield (2004)  and ‘Short Frieze’ Atkinson Gallery, Southport (2007). Selected group exhibitions include Urban York City Art Gallery (2001); Dean Clough Galleries, Halifax (2002, 2004) Paintings in Hospitals Sherridan Russel Gallery, London (2003); Jerwood Drawing Prize exhibition (2005); The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition (2005, 2009); Fold It Stroud House Gallery, Stroud (2005) Roderic Barret and his Students Chappel Galleries, Chappel (2006);Urban Voids and Absences turn-berlin gallery, Berlin (2010) and Paint Beldam Gallery, Brunel University (2010).

Jane lives and works in Sheffield.
