Biography:
Imagination is central to Charlie’s work. After studying at the Bezalel School of Art & Design, Israel where she focused on mixed media and performance, Charlie moved to England in 2011 and began working in a tattoo parlour. This reignited an interest in drawing and ink work. After signing with an American Flash agency, Charlie began a series of comic illustrations of Minotaurs which were exhibited in Sheffield’s Cupola Gallery, The Ark Conference Centre, Basingstoke and the Electric Picture House, Cheshire.
Following on from working in Kingshurst, where a local graffiti artist introduced her to paint markers and techniques, Charlie works primarily in marker paint pens, creating large scale wall murals from the paper pieces. With a lifelong love of poetry and stories, many of the imaginative works are based on literary works.
Charlie runs a community art project promoting rural art in Bickenhill. Her large scale paintings have been exhibited in Kingshurst Art Space (2012, 2013), Coventry Lower Precinct (Coventry Mysteries Week 2013), Coventry Town Centre (Positive Image Festival 2013) and business spaces (Rhymes Nursery, Birmingham).
Charlie was elected to the SGFA Council in 2014, and is editor of the Society’s blog, The Journal.
