Artist Biography:

Trained as a painter in the 60`s, printmaking seemed a natural extension to the process of observing and recording.
The tactile task of cutting a relief block has a great appeal. Two years post graduate training in relief printmaking and many years of teaching sixth form students the technical skills helped to clarify my own thoughts and responses to the process.
Before I draw and record a landscape I have observed the area at different times of day in various climatic conditions over a year or more. The process of a black and white print from conception to realization may take 3 or 4 months depending on the size of the print.
Black is not used in the colour prints, dark colours are obtained by overlays of transparent ink.
The source of my inspiration is the local environment and personal surroundings in Somerset.
