Artist: Judith Milne NDD ATD SFP
Artist Biography:
JUDITH MILNE has loved drawing and painting since she was a small child. She spent five years at the Birmingham College of Art and Crafts, studying a wide range of media and art tech¬niques, gaining her N.D.D. in Graphical Design and Book illustration, after which she obtained her degree, A.T.D.
From there she went into teaching, working with the 11-18 year age range, which she found very rewarding. While her children were small she worked on freelance book illustration and developing her love of botanical subjects.
Judith paints in watercolour, her subjects always being worked to actual size and she pays particular attention to colour, shape and detail. Although her main interest lies in painting flowers, she also paints town and landscapes in pen, ink and wash, and watercolour.
Her first book Flowers in Watercolour was published in May 1992 by B.T. Batsford and is a guide to painting flowers in water¬colour, in a botanical and free style. Her second book Painting Wild Flowers was published in January 1995.
She is a regular contributor of articles on painting for Leisure Painter Magazine, SAA Magazine Paint and is a Royal Horti¬cultural Society medallist.
For many years she tutored adults on leisure courses at hotels, ARCA colleges and at venues throughout the U.K. and abroad as well as taking regular courses in Worcester and her home in Berkshire. She has also demonstrated and held workshops for art societies across the U.K.
Although now semi-retired, Judith paints full-time, exhibits regularly in general exhibitions and solo shows.
In 1988 she started her publishing business 'Miart', but although she closed her business on her retirement, she still sells cards and prints of her work. Her paintings, prints, videos, books and published articles have been sold and distributed worldwide. Judith is happy to undertake commissions.
She is Chairman of the Society of Floral Painters.
