Artist Biography:

1957 - 61
Brian studied Fine Art and Graphic Design at Brighton College of Art, where he learnt the craft of Etching under Raymond Cowern RA, RE.

1961 - 64 Scholarship to the Royal College of Art

1964 - 66 Visiting tutor in Art and Design at Harrow and Wimbledon Schools of Art

1964 - 90 Freelance Designer and Illustrator, working for many large companies in London including Publishers, Architects, The Post Office, Shell Chemicals, and Shell International

1975 Design Consultant to Shell International

Design commissions for Shell including their Annual Report, corporate identities and a series of prestige calenders for the Petrolium Company of Oman, depicting historic buildings and sites in the Sultanate of Oman. This involving a number of visits to Oman over a period of five years. In 1985 Brian visited Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, to make a series of drawings of the old walled city. These were presented to Saudi Ministers and to HRH Prince of Wales during his Royal visit to open an exhibition in Jeddah. During his time with Shell as a consultant, much of his work involved travelling to Nigeria, Norway, USA and Holland

In 1975 he was made a Fellow of The Chartered Society of Designers

1985 - 2000 Visiting tutor: Drawing and Painting at West Dean College [ Edward James Foundation]

He is Chairman of The Ditchling Handworkers Guild, and a member of The Sussex Guild

Since 1990 Brian has been devoted to full time painting and printmaking

He has work in private collections throughout the UK, the Middle east, Europe, Australia, United States and Japan
He has exhibited in London at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Mall Galleries, New Grafton Gallery and The Llewellyn Gallery. He is a regular exhibitor at Paddon Contemporary Art in Eastbourne, and with The Sussex Guild  at exhibitions throughout Sussex
