"Frottage and Texture in Drawing"
Demonstration by Jo Hall SGFA AOI
Frottage involves laying a support (paper) over a textured surface and taking an impression by rubbing with crayon,graphite etc; in the same way a brass rubbing is made.This
demonstration will explore how texture or tone is introduced into a drawing by frottage. You may have a chance to try the technique yourself.

Workshop with Marie Blake SGFA ATC.
Marie has a strategy that helps you learn to draw with confidence and record your individual way of seeing. Bring a pen, pencil or biro, also a small sketchbook no larger than A6 (103 x
14.9 cms); it will become your source of discovery and inspiration.

"Putty Eraser - Subtractive Effects"
Demonstration by Barry Harrison ASGFA.
Using pencil and other graphite forms as the base, the putty eraser is used to form, or enhance the image. We examine how the putty eraser can be used to help create impressions of
various types of texture from hair to china. Bring a small pad and pencil if you want to join in

Wednesday Oct 6th 2.30-4.30pm
"Scraperboard"
Demonstration by Jean Canter. ARMS (Hon) PPSGFA UKCPS.
The subject will be a landscape drawing on black scraperboard demonstrating the varying strokes and textures possible from the different scrapernibs. Small pieces of board and some
nibs will be available for anyone to try this fascinating technique.

Flowers from Borough Market will be used as reference to demonstrate a drawing in Quink ink with a bamboo pen.Brusho inks will then be painted on with plenty of water and dramatic
results. This will be followed by a chance to have a go yourself, materials will be provided

Sketchbook Workshop with Les Williams ASGFA
Participants meet at the Menier Gallery to draw its internal spaces or study
technique,method and medium from the exhibits. This will be followed by a session of
drawing in Borough Market; finally returning to the gallery to share experiences.
Bring sketchbooks,pens and paint, but no possessions other than those you can easily
carry.

Starting from a pencil sketch, scissors then become the drawing tool to produce a small simple landscape or townscape. Watch a demonstration of this technique and then have a go
