Information for Journalists

THE SOCIETY OF GRAPHIC FINE ART promotes high quality artwork with an emphasis on good drawing.  It encourages drawing with pencil, pen, brush, line making techniques and any method of original printmaking.  Oil painting, pure watercolour, painting with no emphasis on drawing, computer generated images and all forms of reproduction or copy are not admissible in its exhibitions.
Full Members are entitled to use the letters SGFA after their name, and Associate Members ASGFA.

History
Founded in 1919 to “proclaim the value of good draughtsmanship”.
Famous past members included Sir Frank Brangwyn [1st President], Ronald Searle, John Piper;  past exhibitors have been Dame Laura Knight, Arther Rackham, Felix Topolski

Key Events:
Annual Open Exhibition in London. The 88th Annual Open will be held at the Menier Gallery, 51 Southwark Street, London, SE1 1RU,  5-10 October 2009, and will be opened by the eminent artist/printmaker, Norman Ackroyd RA, on Tuesday 6th October at 6.00pm.
